LEO BRESSLER, LPC, NCC, CSOTP

Licensed Professional Counselor

Leo is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and National Certified Counselor (NCC) with over five years of clinical experience in a variety of settings, including schools, residential treatment, and community mental health. Born and raised in Baltimore, MD, she received her master’s degree in School Counseling from Loyola University of Maryland. She is currently pursuing a doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Chestnut Hill College. Her dissertation research is centered around Maladaptive Daydreaming, a clinical phenomenon in which individuals engage in elaborate fantasy to the detriment of their real-world functioning.

Leo specializes in working with children, adolescents, and young adults. She is a certified provider of Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and trained in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy Prolonged Exposure (DBT-PE). She works with individuals suffering from the lasting impact of trauma to find healing. Leo works well with children and adolescents who struggle with problematic or risky behaviors to find new, healthy outlets to express themselves and strengthen their access to supportive resources. She is a Certified Sex Offender Treatment Provider (CSOTP) with experience working with juvenile sex offenders and adolescents with problematic sexual behaviors to accept accountability for their actions, understand and manage their urges, and set and respect appropriate boundaries.

Leo meets every client where they are and works with each individual to create a plan for treatment that addresses the goals that they find meaningful. She has had success building a strong therapeutic relationship with individuals who may be guarded or resistant to therapy by hearing and validating their concerns and empowering them to take an active role in the therapy process.

Leo has an integrative approach to therapy, combining a number of theoretical approaches and techniques as needed, allowing her to shape the treatment to the individual. Her primary influences include narrative therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), and psychodynamic therapy.

When not engaged in therapy, Leo enjoys rock climbing, creative writing, cross-stitching, and spoiling her cat. She is always looking for recommendations for a good book to read or a good place for hiking or climbing in the area.

In a supportive and non-judgmental space, your work with Leo will allow you to explore issues that are important to you and give you the tools to make lasting positive changes. Leo looks forward to meeting with you and working together!
