DR. ERIC DOUGHERTY
Post-Doctoral Resident
Dr. Dougherty is a postdoctoral resident at Otto Psychological Associates, LLC. He currently offers psychological assessment and counseling services to children, adolescents, and adults. He seeks to better understand and build self-awareness for the individual as a contextual being, wherein the expression of identity is both self-determined (e.g. temperament and personality) and also based on the external influences of family, culture, society, and personal history/events (e.g. triumphs and tragedies). Dr. Dougherty appreciates the fact that every individual has their own narrative to share, and that these storied elements can and do shape one’s ongoing experience and outlook, as well as guide the expression of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in both healthy and unhealthy ways; further impacting daily functioning. Dr. Dougherty encourages a collaborative relationship with his clients, and perceives mental health treatment as a joint venture towards maximizing one’s health, potential, and wellbeing.
Dr. Eric Dougherty was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He attended Temple University for his undergraduate education, and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. Dr. Dougherty later received an MA in Clinical Counseling Psychology, with a concentration in Marriage and Family Therapy from La Salle University. For over a decade he worked as a mental health therapist in both the outpatient and residential treatment settings, as well as providing school-based counseling to public school students ages 5 through 18. Most recently, Dr. Dougherty obtained his Doctorate of Psychology in School Psychology from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. During the course of his professional training he has gained experience working with a vast number of client populations, including the provision of mental health services for individuals, families, couples/relationships, and groups. Dr. Dougherty has provided treatment for serious mental health concerns, relationship issues, trauma, and general life difficulties necessitating therapeutic support, using a wide range of evidenced-based treatment modalities.
Outside of his professional endeavors, Dr. Dougherty enjoys TV/movies, spending time with his family and friends, skateboarding, bicycling, and playing video games. He would like to be an avid reader but cannot seem to pick up a book and engage with it!
